Developing open hardware technologies to explore and protect the ocean
Scoutbots develop open hardware technologies to explore and protect the ocean.
The team believes that if a technology is good for the environment it should be available to everybody for free. That is why everything they develop is licensed under an Open Source licence and documented in the detail. They invite everyone to contribute, use, modify and distribute their technology. They aim to accelerate the development of products that are good for the environment and the ocean in particular.
Scoutbots produce radio-controlled sailing robots. The Protei 011 “Optimist" for example is a kind of seafaring drone that cruises the ocean, monitoring levels of plastic, oil and radioactivity. The goal is for the Scoutbots to eventually clean up the ocean, unmanned.
