Letting members of the general public make small emergency grants to low-income workers.By Modest Needs Foundation
Modest Needs lets members of the general public make small ($10-15) emergency grants to low-income workers. Instead of helping them after they’ve fallen into poverty, as the US social safety net does, Modest Needs targets those who have just returned to full-time work, those in training to increase their employability, and veterans returning to civilian life, giving just-in-time, one-off loans at the exact moment when those modest funds could prevent the need for much longer term state aid. It has grown from distributing $10k a year in 2002, to $2 million in 2012.
