Mapillary consists of a smartphone app, a website and an API. Using the app you can take street level photos of roads, bike paths, buildings, and other areas relevant for mapping. These photos are uploaded to Mapillary's servers where they are processed and put onto a map. The photos are also accessible through an API, for developers, app makers and mapping services to use.

Mapillary can be used for:

  • Mapping towns
  • Adding roads to maps
  • Showing the way to your office
  • Mapping a favourite hike or bike ride
  • Sharing a panorama or a beautiful view
  • Sharing your holiday with friends and family
  • Mapping an area that cannot be reached with street view cars
  • Showing the world your house, your local square, or your neighborhood park
  • Taking pictures of the same area at different times of the day, week, or season
  • Checking progress over time for monitoring construction work, agriculture, aid projects and relief work
