Lighting the way for the elderly
Organisation URL: https://www.lunalights.org/
One-third of senior citizens fall every year, causing 2.2 million hospital visits averaging $13,000 medical costs per fall. Luna Lights is an automated lighting system that uses cloud-based data analytics to prevent and detect falls in the older adult population. Pressure pads recognise when someone is getting up and trigger a pre-programmed lighting route. The lights will stay on until the same pressure pad senses the person has returned to bed. It also uses cloud-based data analytics, e.g. monitoring the time someone has been out of bed and assessing whether this is indicative of a more serious problem, such as a fall. The organisation incorporates a person's safety into an easy-to-use preventive and predictive system.
