Bringing together the largest community of young scientists in China
Guokr, meaning ‘nutshell’, is China's biggest science social network, with a particular following among natural science and engineering students. It lists content by topic, discussion groups and Q&As. In 2012 it joined forces with Coursera and now has a MOOC self-study group with 43,000 members. It also has a Weibo social network page with one million followers.
Guokr is organised into 15 different “theme stations” which cover everything from brain science to art and science. Visitors can ask questions of more than 652 Guokr Deren, experts drawn from universities, hospitals, academia and public research institutes. Extensive and lively forums debate the answers. Guokr is just a hint of what might be possible in online science education in China.
