The Girls Who Code website states that "Women today represent 12% of all computer science graduates. In 1984, they represented 37%".
In a global economy, where the demand for computing skills is ever increasing, this is a disadvantageous trend for women in today's labour market. Girls Who Code aims to provide computer science education and exposure to one million young women by 2020.
They aim to achieve this by developing practical ways to show girls that coding is fun. They run an annual summer immersion program and support clubs which have been set up across the country.
