Flowminder Foundation is a registered non-profit organisation based in Stockholm. Its mission is to improve public health and welfare in low- and middle-income countries. It analyses population anonymised mobile location data and provides decision support for free to relief agencies and organisations to enable more effective aid distribution during crisis response and disease outbreaks.
Through analysing anonymised call detail records (CDRs), Flowminder provides reliable, comprehensive tracking and monitoring of displaced populations at fine spatio-temporal scales. This analysis enhances the ability of relief agencies to effectively target aid during natural disasters.
Responding to the 2015 earthquake, Flowminder used CDR data to produce near real-time reports on the location and movement of displaced people in Nepal. These analyses were praised by key agencies as ‘a major asset for coordinating an effective response’.
