Firechat is an instant messaging application developed by Open Garden. The app enables smartphones to connect to one another using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or peer-to-peer technology, without having to first connect to the internet, circumnavigating network connections.
The app has gained popularity in countries where internet restrictions apply and fears of government surveillance and monitoring are prevalent, as it makes communication possible without having to use the internet.
