The Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) project connects remote health clinics in Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria with a handful of data centres and laboratories, so medics can cut the time it takes to return infant medical test results, chiefly for HIV, from months to days, using text and web instead of postal services. Early diagnosis and treatment could prevent the deaths of thousands of babies who are born HIV positive. This is a partnership between HP, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, and the Kenyan Ministry of Health. 200,000 infants have been tested to date.
