Developing decentralised privacy aware toolsBy Nesta
D-CENT is a Europe-wide project creating privacy-aware tools and applications for direct democracy and economic empowerment. The abbreviation D-CENT stands for Decentralised Citizens ENgagement Technologies. Together with citizens and developers, they are creating a decentralised social networking platform for large-scale collaboration and decision-making. The organisation offers a privacy-aware, open source and non-commercial alternative for social movements, civic innovators, and civil society groups.
Alongside the platform, the project also explores how communities might manage common goods and facilitate online exchange with Bitcoin-style digital social currencies. The project started in October 2013, has a multidisciplinary partnership from seven countries, and will run until May 2016.
The organisation plans to pilot in Spain, Iceland and Finland.
