Minimising cycle accidents with Heavy Goods Vehicles
The main cause of cyclist deaths in cities is through accidents with HGVs. Cycle Alert hopes to minimise these deaths through a combination of sensors.
A cyclist fixes a tag to their bike, helmet or clothing. The tag is detected through sensors on side and cab units of the HGV.
If the signal strength from the bike sensor exceeds a certain limit, an alert is triggered. The alerts (audio and visual) show the position of the cyclist in relation to the driver's vehicle.
The scheme aims to raise the actual and perceived level of safety for cyclists on the roads in the UK.
