Checking parliamentary candidates and MPs against key criteria.
Online social movement Chesno launched a year before Ukraine's 2012 elections, with its Let's Filter Parliament campaign, which identified candidates it deemed unfit for office. Journalists and activists checked 2,500 candidates and 450 MPs against a checklist of criteria, including records on human rights, and consistency between income and asset declarations and lifestyle. They found 900 in breach of codes. The group’s next campaign will seek to assert greater citizen control over elected officials.
