Circumventing a ban on private radio news.
CGNet Swara is a mobile news service that was pioneered in the war-torn Indian region of Chhattisgarh. It was developed to circumvent India's ban on private radio news so that people in this remote area, who had never before had access to local news could send and listen to audio reports in their own language. Its 100 citizen journalists have filed 1,400 independently verified reports. One was picked up by national media and prompted a Human Rights Commission Report and a Supreme Court investigation.
