Andela provides a training programme for four months to a carefully selected, high-aptitude group of individuals (around 0.8% of its total applicants in Lagos, Nigeria) and places them in remote full-time software developer jobs at US and EU companies.

It's good for the company as it's providing training and employment that's half of what a US developer would cost them, and it's good for the economy in Nigeria as it's giving gifted software developers a chance to find work without needing to emigrate.
The project launched in September 2015, and 5,000 people have already applied for 28 spots in the current class. There is so much demand that Andela is planning additional campuses in Kenya and Ghana.
